In Munchen I am
ok ok i know this is a bit overdue, cos i'm like halfway through my germany trip already but i can explain!
the first 3 nights in hahn i was on a farm 10 km away from the airport and 100+ km away from the city of frankfurt. there was no internet access for the guests at the hostel, so that's that. but having painted you an extrememly ulu picture of hahn, let me say that hahn is actually a very lovely area. and because it is so far from the city lights, the nightsky (when it is clear) is breathtaking.
from hahn we came to munich (munchen!), stopping at nurnberg for an afternoon. i love nurnberg and i would love to go back there again. one afternoon is definitely not enough. in munchen, pw and i are staying with xiaoling and weijie respectively. they are from pw's german class and are now on sep here and so we get internet for these few days. the weather literally turned freezing cold the 2nd day we arrived and the rains turned into heavy snow. and so i had my first taste of a snow-blanketed landscape.
we went out to fussen today to visit king lugwig II's fairytale castle, schloss neuschwanstein. the snow just added on to the surreal feeling you get from the lonely castle atop the bavarian alps. the view from the castle is wonderful, for want of a better word to describe it.
will be leaving for berlin on sunday. not sure if i'll be connected again. well, to sum up my feelings about travelling and about germany so far: i love going around a foreign place and seeing things that i'll probably not get to see again. and i am really struck by the beauty of both man's creations and of nature's intricate hand. however, it is definitely tiring to be on the road, walking more than 6 (?) hours a day! well, that said, we are only young once! and i'm glad to have the chance to see the world and open my eyes.
i do thank my lucky stars, really.
